I win!

I've done it, I actually did it. I won NaNoWriMo! I got to 50k words.

Of course I'm still only half - 2/3 of the way through the story but NaNo's given me a good start and gotten me back into the habit of writing every day.

Finally, before my battery dies here's a quick excerpt from Hope's Folly (not to be confused with this).

Remember first draft so fairly awful.

“Well that could have gone worse.” Dannage said flopping into one of the chairs around the table, scrubbing his face with the balls of his hands.
“We can’t them lock Hale up.” Arland said, her temper still high, something about the admiral rubbed her up the wrong way, he could understand, Arthur had always been that sort.
“We’ll find a way,” he replied, keeping his eyes closed. “We always find a way.”
She didn’t buy it, how could he expect her to, he wasn’t sure he bought it himself. He opened his eyes to find her staring down at him. A fire in her eyes he thought she’d lost.
“Sir, what next.”
He didn’t know. He felt wrung out, hollow. Dispite his raging words back at Gypsum he didn’t have the first idea about fighting a war.
“I don’t see how we can stop the Terran ships, their too powerful. Even with the whole SDF fleet, I don’t see how we can win out against them.”
Maybe they couldn’t win against the Terrans but he would be damned if he wouldn’t do everything he could to save his crew. All of them.
He reached into his boot and pulled out a small short range com unit.
“Jax, you there?” He whispered walking to the back of the room away from the marine, as though to admire the wall hanging. Pompous thing that it was.
“Yes sir. They’ve got marines in the Folly, locking her down.”
“Free to go, my ass.” He muttered.
“Sorry didn’t catch that sir.”
“Can you scan the ship and let me know where Hale’s being kept.”
“I’ll see what I can do.”
He closed the channel and dropped the com unit back into his jacket pocket.
“Cap’n,” Luck sidelled up beside him, “What’re you thinkin'?”
“I’m thinking there’s no good way out of this.”
